Meet a variety of turtles and tortoises during QWR’s Annual World Turtle Day Celebration. Participants will learn all about these fascinating animals before taking a hike on the Refuge trails to search for native pond turtles and the Eastern Box Turtle, which is now a Species of Special Concern. Come and celebrate nature and our lovely planet at the Refuge during this all-day affair! The day will include guided nature walks, live animal presentations, crafts for children, environmental exhibitors, and self-guided kayaking and canoeing on Old Ice Pond. This free celebration is offered by Quogue Wildlife Refuge and Eastern Long Island Audubon Society. A great day for all ages! No reservations necessary. Rain or shine
Come to the Refuge for exploring, discovering, and lots of wildlife fun, while learning about nature and animals. Dress for the weather, as each day will include a hike on the trails. Create a bunny craft and then hop on down Peter Cottontail’s Trail to a special spot on the Refuge for an egg hunt. Each child will receive a special gift. A very popular program for children ages 2 to 4, accompanied by an adult, so sign up early! $10.00 per child. Space is limited. Reservations required.

Inspect the Refuge egg & nest collection for ideas to create your own fun nest craft. You may want to bring a smock or an old shirt with you. We will decorate our own ‘nests’ and color and decorate hard-boiled eggs to take home! A program for children ages 5-12. Reservations required, as space is limited. $5 per-child. Dress appropriately, as the program will take place outside.
Join Crystal Possehl, South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) Nature Educator, as she introduces some of the South Fork’s most interesting native amphibians. Some are nocturnal, others come out only after heavy rains to mate, while some live most of their adult lives in trees. Meet a variety of salamanders, frogs and toads while learning fascinating facts about these Long Island amphibians at this free program for children and adults. Reservations required.
