Mark your calendars now for Saturday, July 20th, the date of Quogue Wildlife Refuge’s 7th Annual Wild Night for Wildlife Benefit Gala, a fantastic fundraising event that celebrates the wonder and beauty of nature, as well as the Refuge’s mission of promoting environmental awareness and education. This year’s gala will be held at the home of Paul and Jane Dietche in the Village of Quogue, from 7-10 pm, with an exclusive VIP hour at 6 pm, featuring a historic house tour, for guests donating $750 or more per person. Typically attended by more than 500 guests, A Wild Night for Wildlife has earned a reputation of being the “fun fundraiser”. Festivities for 2013, will include live music performed by The Times Square Orchestra; mouth-watering hors d’ouevres prepared by Buoy One; beer by Southampton Publick House; Tito’s Handmade organic vodka, and wine from Lieb Cellars and Wolffer Estate Vineyards. The live and silent auctions get better and better each year, with fantastic prizes, including a Meet and Greet with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and custom-made birdhouses from area architects and builders. QWR is also pleased to welcome back ABC’s Bill Ritter as Auctioneer. Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the Refuge’s resident animals.

Earth Yoga With Amy Hess, Wednesdays in March, April & May, at 9AM

Connect with the Earth and connect with yourself — mind, body and spirit — during a one-hour yoga class in the Main Room of the Nature Center. This is a Gentle Yoga Program for all fitness levels, and will be taught by Amy Hess, a certified yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Students must bring their own mats. $8.00 per class if pre-paid for a month; walk-in fee is $12.00 per class. Payment and pre-registration recommended.

Full Moon Night Hike, Saturday, May 25th, 8:30-10:00PM

Join us for a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon. The walk will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Reservations required 24 hours prior, as space is limited. A program for adults and families with children over 11. Free for members, $5.00 for non-members. Payment is required at time of reservation.

Celebrate World Turtle Day, Sunday May 19th, Talks & Walks at 10:30AM, 12:30PM & 2:30PM

Meet a variety of turtles and tortoises during QWR’s Annual World Turtle Day Celebration. Participants will learn all about these fascinating animals before taking a hike on the Refuge trails to search for native pond turtles and the Eastern Box Turtle, which is now a Species of Special Concern. Sign up for one of the three time slots. A program for adults and families. Half hour talks followed by a 1 hour walk around Old Ice Pond. Reservations required. $5.00 per person suggested donation.
