Meet a variety of turtles and tortoises during QWR’s Annual World Turtle Day Celebration. Participants will learn all about these fascinating animals before taking a hike on the Refuge trails to search for native pond turtles and the Eastern Box Turtle, which is now a Species of Special Concern. Sign up for one of the two time slots. Dress for the weather. A program for all ages. Reservations required. $3.00 suggested donation.

Spring Family Hike – Saturday, May 12, 10-11AM

Start your weekend off with a one mile walk in the forest! Come and learn about fiddleheads, skunk cabbage, songbirds, and see the new spring growth in the Pine Barrens Forest. A lovely time for a guided walk on the trails. Feel free to bring or borrow binoculars. A free program for adults and families. Reservations required.

Full Moon Night Hike – Saturday, May 5, 8:15PM

All are invited for a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as we look and listen for nocturnal creatures, and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon. The walk will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Reservations required 24 hours prior, as space is limited. A program for adults and families with children over 11. Free for members, $5.00 for non-members. Payment is required at time of reservation.

Earth Day Celebration – Sunday, April 22, 11AM-4PM

Come and celebrate nature and our lovely planet at the Refuge during this all-day affair! The day will include guided nature walks, live animal presentations, crafts for children, environmental exhibitors, and self-guided kayaking and canoeing on Old Ice Pond. This free celebration is offered by Quogue Wildlife Refuge and Eastern Long Island Audubon Society. A great day for all ages! No reservations necessary. Rain or shine

Spring Wildlife Camp – Tuesday, April 10, through Friday, April 13, 9AM-12PM

Come to the Refuge for exploring, discovering, and lots of wildlife fun, while learning about nature and animals. Dress for the weather, as each day will include a hike on the trails. There will also be time for a snack break, so please bring a snack & drink. Registration and payment required in advance. $30 per day, or $100 for all four days. A program for children ages 5 – 11.

Annual Egg Hunt – Sunday April 8th: Session 1, 9:30-10:30AM; Session II, 11AM-12PM

Create a bunny craft and then hop on down Peter Cottontail’s Trail to a special spot on the Refuge for an egg hunt. Each child will receive a special gift. A very popular program for children ages 2 to 4, accompanied by an adult, so sign up early! $10.00 per child. Space is limited. Reservations required.
