SUMMARY:Nature Writing Workshop – “Stories Rooted in Place”
DESCRIPTION:What stories do the trees and trails of Quogue Wildlife Refuge have to tell us? What whisperings will we hear among hawks\, turtles\, insects? As summer flourishes around us\, bring your pad and pen outdoors to write the natural world into a poem\, short story\, or mini-essay. Whether the natural world shapes the setting\, or becomes the main character of our work\, we’ll let our imagination run wild over these 305 acres of stories. We’ll spend time in deep observation\, read and write stories of our own\, all in conversation with the natural world. Maryann Calendrille\, an educator\, writer\, and editor of over 35 years\, has taught at local libraries\, Southampton College\, and through Canio’s Books\, the Sag Harbor shop she co-owned for 25 years. She now runs Canio’s Cultural Café\, a literary nonprofit on the East End. Maryann will share elements of the writer’s craft and lead guided exercises. Join for one or two sessions as your time allows. Writers of all levels are welcome.  \n\n\n\n$30 per session or $50 for both sessions (July 24th & August 14th. Visit July 24th session to purchase both). Reservations and pre-payment necessary. This program will take place outdoors\, consider wearing sun protection. \n\n\n\nRefund Policy: Program tickets are non-refundable unless we\, Quogue Wildlife Refuge\, cancel the program due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. If you decide to cancel\, your class fee will be donated to support our mission driven work at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore about Maryann Calendrille:  \n\n\n\nMaryann is editor of Sag Harbor Is: A Literary Celebration an anthology of prose and poetry about the village. She has published articles and poems in various journals including Long Island Poets and On Montauk. For 12 years she wrote the Spyglass community column for the Southampton Press. She earned an MFA in Poetry at Vermont College.   Raised on Long Island\, she has lived on the East End for decades\, inspired by the ever changing seas and skies.
