The Butterfly Garden was established in 2004, with support and guidance from the Westhampton Garden Club, it contains plants and flowers that encourage and support a variety of pollinators including butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
Through continued collaboration with the Westhampton Garden Club, and a new and tremendously generous overhaul project donated by Dragonfly Landscape Design Inc. of Westhampton, the Butterfly Garden has become an increasingly special and beautiful place to visit!
The garden is lined with a personalized brick walkway, which is a lovely way to eternalize your support of the QWR. Your name or message can be engraved on a brick and incorporated into the walkway.
The Greenhouse is a new addition, built in 2014 and opened to the public in 2015. This wonderful addition is now home to 5 non-native/non-releasable tortoises and was made possible by the generosity of two individuals & several local businesses. Thanks to them we were able to build an incredible, temperature controlled greenhouse for our growing tortoises to live in. They have ample space and light, and the ability to dig in their new enclosure. They have certainly been enjoying their new home! We are also excited to be able to grow our own plants for the Butterfly Garden, as well as some food for the animals.
In our Greenhouse lives 4 African Spurred Tortoises, and 1 Red-footed tortoise. Our residents are non-native and non-releasable tortoises who go by Mortis, Riga, Spike, Cactus, and Red-Foot. We invite you to come visit them in their new greenhouse or outdoor enclosure!
